About Sara

Sara has taught in public, private, and charter school settings since 2005, where she has also held a variety of leadership roles supporting teachers with social and emotional learning and Project Based Learning. She earned her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Bank Street College in New York City and is the co-author of the book, Implementing Project Based Learning in Early Childhood: Overcoming Misconceptions and Reaching Success (Routledge, 2020). As a long-time early-childhood educator, she seeks to empower young children to engage in joyful and independent learning, striving always to be guided by curiosity and compassion.

Sara was a founding teacher at Citizens of the World Charter School (Mar Vista) in Los Angeles where she also served as the school’s SEL coordinator and taught yoga to 4th and 5th graders, as well as to her own Transitional Kindergarten (TK) students. She is currently teaching TK at Larchmont Charter School in Los Angeles.

Originally from Rockville Maryland, Sara moved to New York City after graduating from the University of Rochester and worked as an actor and American Sign Language Interpreter. She recently helped pilot the Yoga Ed. Chair Yoga and Mindfulness course for Deaf and hard-of-hearing professionals and is looking forward to a continued partnership between Yoga Ed. and the Deaf community.

Whether teaching in the classroom or on the yoga mat, Sara strives to inspire both children and adults to follow their own curiosities and interests, while at the same time supporting them in developing and strengthening their many skills as they build meaningful connections and relationships within diverse communities.
