Children’s Anatomy and Physiology

How much do you really know about the developmental changes children undergo to become adults, and how these changes affect their physical fitness and capabilities?

We developed this course to answer just those questions. In this workshop, you’ll gain an understanding of the basic changes the body undergoes through childhood, what this means for children during physical activity, and how to modify yoga classes to meet their developmental needs.

What You’ll Learn

Recognize functional developmental differences to safely and effectively teach yoga to children.

This workshop equips you with a basic understanding of children’s anatomy and physiology. You will learn how the body changes through childhood and how to use modifications to safely teach yoga to children.

Focus: Ages 3 to 12 / Grades Pre-K to 5th



Upon completion of this course, participants are eligible for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) with the Yoga Alliance.

None. Anyone who is interested in learning about this topic is welcome to take this course.


Course Materials

Upon registration for this training, you will receive:

  • Two sections of video lectures ~1 hour in total, with optional quiz questions to test your understanding
  • Yoga Ed. Child Development Manual, complete with illustrations and an overview of all topics covered

By the end of this course you will:

  • Understand the fundamentals of how the child’s body develops
  • Recognize how to safely use physical activity to improve children’s fitness and capabilities
  • Modify yoga classes to meet children’s developmental needs
