Sweet summer is officially here! Soak up the sun while you soak up the benefits of yoga with your kids by taking your practice outside. What could be better?
1. Yoga Mat
Yoga mat, beach towel, picnic blanket — it’s all fair game this summer! Like the feeling of grass between your toes? We dig that, too. The most important thing is that your kids are able to find and maintain their balance, so use discretion as you choose your terrain and mat.
2. Clothes You Can Move In
The swimsuits and t-shirts of summer may allow kids more freedom to get moving, but make sure that clothing will both keep them covered and allow them full movement, so they can take on poses with full confidence.
3. Water
During hot summer days, it’s more important than ever to make sure that water is readily available for your young yogis. Mix it up with some fresh fruit for a refreshing and hydrating treat!
4. Sunscreen
Protect your kids from harmful UV rays by equipping them with sunscreen before you hit the mat, especially if you’re practicing beach side or in the middle of the day.
5. Bug Spray
Drawing strength in your tree poses as you stand among the trees? We love it, and so do those mosquitoes. If you’re bringing your practice outside at dusk, or in an environment that has it’s fair share of mosquitoes, bug spray may be the best option for your little ones.
6. Friends
The more the merrier! Double the fun by asking friends to join you on your yoga outing. Plus, with more yogis, there is even more potential for partner poses and yoga games that will have everyone moving, sweating, and smiling!
7. Positive Vibes Only
The time spent outdoors doing yoga can serve as a mini vacation for you and your family. Make your mat a little slice of paradise by taking with you only positive thoughts and intentions. Leave the rest of it for later. Maybe September?
