Course Schedule

Week 1

Hello! On the first week of the course, we will introduce the program and review the course schedule. You’ll also experience a teen’s yoga class in action so we can start to get a feeling for the work.

Week 2

Teaching Philosophy: Explore the teaching philosophies that inform your work as a Yoga Educator. We will discuss the impact and importance of these philosophies for effective teaching.

Week 3

Classroom Management: What does it take to create a safe space for effective teaching and engaged learning? Find out this week. Plus, we will take this a step further by exploring how to cultivate positive relationships with your students through classroom management techniques. We will also introduce the fundamentals of lesson planning for a teen’s yoga class.

Week 4

The Brain: Trust us, brain-based learning will be your best guidance for teaching yoga to children. This week, we will examine how the brain develops during adolescence and how these changes influence how students are showing up in the classroom. We will also introduce developmental milestones. You will take what we learn about the brain this week to design yoga classes for your students’ developmental needs.

Week 5

Anatomy and Physiology: Learn about how teens’ bodies change during adolescence and how to tailor yoga tools to safely support teens’ physical development.

Week 6

Yoga Breathing, Warm-Ups, and Poses: This week we will begin to introduce yoga tools, starting with adolescents’ breathing and warm-ups. We will also introduce yoga postures for teenagers. Lessons will be interspersed with the benefits of each tool, demonstrations, and tips to put what you learn into practice.

Week 7

Partner Poses, Games, and Relaxation: This week we will cover partner poses, games, and relaxation techniques. We will also learn the benefits and skills that each of these promote.

Week 8

Course Finale: Learn how to get started teaching adolescent’s yoga and create an action plan to begin teaching yoga. We will also share teaching resources that can help enrich your students’ yoga experience.

No, once you complete the course, you will receive a certificate from Yoga Ed. which is yours for life!

What’s included in my course access?

You will have access to the online platform with all course material for one year from the time of enrollment. Within the course, you will find curriculum, premade lesson plans, and teaching resources that are digital downloads. You will have lifetime access to those once you download them. You will also have lifetime access to a community board of graduates for ongoing peer guidance, support, and connections.

When are the community gatherings for the Teaching Teens’ Yoga course?

Community gatherings will be hosted on the 2nd full week of the month. The community gatherings for this course will be held on Wednesdays at 5:00pm Pacific | 8:00pm Eastern. Each gathering will be one hour long. They are optional and will be recorded for you to watch on your own time. Please find the community gathering schedule here.

How do I extend my course access beyond 1 year?

You may choose to extend your course access beyond 1 year by enrolling in the Yoga Ed. Membership for $12/month or $99/year. Course access will be extended for as long as your membership remains active, including all instructional videos, community discussion boards, and community gatherings for ongoing instructor support. Enrolled in more than one course? Not to worry, your membership will extend access for all courses you’ve enrolled in.

I am new to yoga and don’t have experience teaching yoga. Is this course a good option for me?

Our courses are suitable for all levels. Whether you’re new to yoga or have your 500-hour certification, our courses are a great fit for anyone who wants to learn how to teach yoga and mindfulness to the children and teens in their life.

Do I need to be a teacher or mental health professional to take this course?

No, this course is designed for anyone who works with children (or would like to work with children). Yoga teachers, parents, nurses, counselors, mental health professionals, youth services support staff, and many other professionals have gone through our course and found the knowledge to be invaluable to the youth they work with.

Does this qualify for credits?

Yes, this course qualifies for the following credits:

+ 32 hours continuing education units with the Yoga Alliance

+ 3.5 semester hours with Loyola Marymount University – choose the Loyola Marymount University credit option at checkout

+ 32 CEUs towards your ISSA certification with International Sports Science Association

Can I get CEUs in my state/school district?

Upon completion of our courses or program, you will receive a Certificate of Completion. Many school districts honor this as CEU credit. We recommend reaching out to your administrator ahead of time to ask if they will honor Yoga Ed. courses. We also offer Graduate Level Professional Development Credit through LMU.
